Walnut Burl
(Juglans regia and Juglans nigra)
Source: California, Oregon and Washington. It is a grafting of the European Walnut (Juglans regia), onto the root stock of American Black Walnut (Juglans nigra).
Color: Varies from a tannish brown to reddish brown to dark brown.
Pattern: Sometimes wavy grain with prominent, lighter colored stripes. Often with burl, crotch, curly figure and/or swirl figure pattern.
Characteristics: Fast grown, moderately heavy, hard, rather open grained.
